Fin alternatives
Fin is an AI agent for customer service, made by the company formerly called Intercom. It works inside Intercom or alongside other help desks. If you do not run a help desk and want a chatbot on your website that follows a conversation you write, Alma takes a different approach. This page compares the two, using Fin's own pages for every statement about Fin.
Fin's homepage describes it as a customer agent: an AI that answers customers on a business's behalf. It says Fin is built into Intercom and also works with Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Freshdesk and other help desks, and that it works across voice, chat, email, Slack and social channels.
Fin is also now the company's name. Fin's about page lists 2026 as the year "The company is renamed from Intercom to Fin", and the May 12, 2026 announcement said Intercom would stay on as the name of its customer service software platform. On September 10, 2026, a post on Fin's blog reported that Salesforce had completed its acquisition of Fin. For the help desk itself, see our page on Intercom alternatives.
On price, Fin's homepage says: "We believe that you should only pay for Fin when it delivers value." We do not quote its prices here; its own site has the current figures.
For a company with a help desk and a large number of customer questions, that is a strong fit.
Fin works through a help desk and the team that runs it. A business without either often needs something simpler. A scripted chatbot may suit you better if:
Start the 14-day trial, choose a template for your industry, and try the conversation on your own website. Plans start at $29 a month after the trial.
Alma is a chatbot you script yourself. Most of the conversation is flows: questions, buttons and answers you write, which run the same way for every visitor. AI answering is optional and covers the typed questions your flows did not plan for.
You start from one of 145 templates in 15 categories, edit the conversation in a drag-and-drop flow builder, and paste one embed code on your site (see the install guides). The chatbot asks questions with buttons and typed answers and tags each lead by what they said. When a visitor gives an email address or phone number, Alma saves the lead and emails it to the address you set for notifications. On the Growth plan ($79 a month) and up, Zapier can pass leads to other apps, and the Agency plan ($199 a month) adds webhooks and an API. Alma also has its own booking calendar, with a booking page you can link to from the chat or from your website.
AI answering is an optional add-on for $25 a month, with up to 500 AI answers a month. It replies to typed questions your flows do not cover, using text you provide, up to 50,000 characters (about 8,000 words). The Alma team sets it up and loads your text into the bot.
Compared with Fin, Alma leaves out the following:
| Topic | Fin | Alma |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An AI agent that works inside a help desk | A chatbot builder for your website, with optional AI answers |
| Where it answers | Voice, chat, email, Slack and social channels | The chat window on your website |
| How AI is priced | Fin says you "only pay for Fin when it delivers value" | $25 a month for up to 500 AI answers |
Every statement about Fin on this page comes from the pages below, which we read on October 17, 2026. Products change, so check them for the current version before you decide.
Fin and Alma
Yes. The company announced on May 12, 2026 that it was changing its name from Intercom to Fin, after its AI agent. Intercom remains the name of its customer service software platform.
$25 a month on any plan, separate from the plan itself, with up to 500 AI answers a month for your organization. When those are used, the chatbot gives no more AI answers until the next month, and your flows keep working.
Not directly. Alma has no help desk integration. On the Growth plan and up, Zapier can pass each new lead to apps that Zapier supports, and the Agency plan adds webhooks.
Yes. Flows work on every plan without AI answering. Many chatbots that collect leads and answer set questions never need it.
