Install guides
Alma runs on your site as a chat window. You add it by pasting one short piece of code, the embed code, into your website. Where that code goes depends on the platform your site is built on, so each guide below covers one platform: where to paste the code, which of that platform's plans allow it, how to check that it works, and how to show the chat on only some pages.
Every Alma chatbot has its own embed code. It is on the bot's Settings page in your Alma dashboard, in the Embed Code section, with a Copy Code button underneath. It is a short script of about seven lines:
<script>
(function(w,d,s,o,f,js,fjs){
w['AlmaChat']=o;w[o]=w[o]||function(){(w[o].q=w[o].q||[]).push(arguments)};
js=d.createElement(s),fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js.id=o;js.src=f;js.async=1;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);
}(window,document,'script','alma','https://www.helloalma.chat/widget/widget.js'));
alma('init', 'YOUR-BOT-ID');
</script>
The code loads Alma's chat file asynchronously (in the background), so the browser keeps building your page instead of waiting for it. Once the file has loaded, a round chat button appears in the bottom right corner of the page, or the bottom left if you choose that under Widget Position on the same Settings page. A visitor clicks the button and the chat opens with your welcome message.
Alma's instruction is the same on every platform: paste the code just before the closing </body> tag, which sits near the end of every page's HTML (the code a browser reads to draw the page). Website builders rarely show you that tag. Instead, each one has its own place for adding code to the end of a page, such as a footer code box, a code injection field or a theme file, and some only offer it on certain plans. The guides show you that place on each platform and name the plans that include it, using the platform's own documentation.
Alma has no setting that limits the chat to certain pages. It appears on every page that contains the embed code, so to show it on only some pages, you paste the code on those pages instead of adding it to the whole site. Each guide explains how to do that on its platform. Put the code on a page once only: a page with two copies loads the chat twice.
If your site runs on another platform or was built by hand, the same rule applies. Look in your platform's help pages for "custom code" or "code injection". If it lets you add a script before the closing </body> tag, that is where the embed code goes.
The trial lasts 14 days with the Starter plan's limits: 1 chatbot and up to 1,000 subscribers. Every plan includes the website chat window, from $29 a month. Zapier comes with Growth ($79 a month) and webhooks with Agency ($199 a month).
Installing Alma
Usually not. You copy the embed code from your bot's Settings page in Alma and paste it where your website platform accepts custom code. If your platform has no such place, or your plan with that platform does not include it, you will need to change that plan or ask whoever manages your site to add the code.
No. Alma has no WordPress plugin, no Shopify app, and no app in the Wix, Squarespace or Webflow marketplaces. On every platform you add the same embed code, through the platform's own code settings or, on WordPress, a plugin that adds code to your pages.
Yes, by adding the embed code to only those pages. Alma has no setting of its own for this: the chat window appears on every page that contains the code.
The embed code loads Alma's chat file asynchronously, which means the browser keeps building your page instead of stopping to wait for it. The chat button appears once the file has loaded.
The trial lasts 14 days. If you have not chosen a plan by then, the chat window stops appearing on your site, and your dashboard stays open so you can choose one. Once you subscribe it appears again, without pasting the code a second time.
Start the trial
Choose a template, write your welcome message, and paste the embed code where your platform's guide shows. Alma emails each new lead, with the answers the visitor gave, to the address you set for lead alerts.
