Wix chatbot

Add a chatbot to your Wix site

Wix adds outside code through a Custom Code page in your site's settings, and that page also lets you choose which pages the code loads on. That makes Wix one of the simpler places to show Alma on some pages and not others. Two requirements come first.

Where the code goes
Settings, Custom Code, placed at Body - end
Plan needed
A published site with a connected domain (a Premium plan)
Only some pages
Choose specific pages when you add the code

What Wix requires before you add code

Wix's guide to embedding custom code says your site must be published and have a connected domain before you add code, and Wix's upgrade guide says connecting a custom domain requires a Premium plan. A free Wix site without a connected domain cannot use Custom Code, so it cannot run the embed code.

Wix also ties each code snippet to your domain. If you assign a different domain to your site, Wix deletes your code snippets, and you will need to add the embed code again. These steps follow Wix's guide for sites built in the Wix Editor.

Add Alma with Custom Code

  1. In Alma, open your bot's Settings page, find the Embed Code section and click Copy Code.
  2. In your Wix site's dashboard, go to Settings.
  3. In the Development & integrations section, click Custom Code.
  4. Click + Add Custom Code at the top right.
  5. Paste the embed code into the text box and give it a name you will recognize, such as Alma chat.
  6. Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages, or choose specific pages and pick them from the drop-down menu.
  7. Under Place Code in, choose Body - end. That puts the code at the end of each page, which matches Alma's instruction to paste it before the closing </body> tag.
  8. Click Apply.
The embed code as your bot's Settings page shows it. Your copy has your bot's ID where this one says YOUR-BOT-ID.
<script>
  (function(w,d,s,o,f,js,fjs){
    w['AlmaChat']=o;w[o]=w[o]||function(){(w[o].q=w[o].q||[]).push(arguments)};
    js=d.createElement(s),fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
    js.id=o;js.src=f;js.async=1;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);
  }(window,document,'script','alma','https://www.helloalma.chat/widget/widget.js'));
  alma('init', 'YOUR-BOT-ID');
</script>

If you choose All pages, Wix also asks whether to load the code once per visit or on each page your visitor opens. Whichever you pick, open a few different pages of your live site afterward to confirm the chat button is on each one.

Build the chatbot first, then paste it in.

Start the 14-day trial, choose one of the templates, write your welcome message, and copy your embed code into Wix with the steps above.

Show the chat on only some pages

Alma has no page setting of its own, but on Wix you do not need one. When you add the code, choose specific pages under Add Code to Pages and select only the pages where the chat should appear, such as your services and contact pages. Wix loads the code on those pages and nowhere else, and Alma shows the chat window only where its code loads.

Check that it is working

Open your live site, at your connected domain, in a private or incognito browser window. A round chat button should sit in the bottom right corner, or the bottom left if you chose that under Widget Position in Alma. Click it to see your welcome message.

If it is missing, check that you published the site after adding the code, that the snippet's toggle on the Custom Code page is on, and that your Alma trial or plan is active. Your browser's developer tools show "Alma Chat initialized" in the Console tab when the chat loads. Wix's guide also notes that since December 2025 it applies extra security checks to custom code, and that some snippets can be blocked until their provider updates them. If everything above checks out and the button still does not appear, contact us with your site's address and we will look at it.

What Alma does on a Wix site

Alma does not connect to Wix's own tools. It does not read your Wix Bookings, Wix Stores or Wix Forms data, and it does not add people to your Wix contact list. It holds the conversations you build in Alma, asks visitors your questions, and emails each new lead, with their answers, to the address you set for lead alerts. If you take appointments, Alma's own booking calendar can offer open times, and it syncs with Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar. On the Growth plan ($79 a month) and up, Zapier can pass leads to other apps.

Wix chatbot FAQ

Do I need a Wix Premium plan to add Alma?

In practice, yes. Wix's guide says your site must be published and have a connected domain before you add custom code, and Wix says connecting a custom domain requires a Premium plan.

Where should the code go: Head, Body - start, or Body - end?

Body - end. Alma's instructions are to paste the embed code just before the closing </body> tag, at the end of the page, and Body - end is the Wix option for that position.

Can I show the chat only on certain pages?

Yes. When you add the code, choose specific pages under Add Code to Pages and select the pages you want. Alma shows the chat window only on pages where the code loads.

What happens if I change my site's domain?

Wix deletes custom code snippets when you assign a different domain to your site, because each snippet is tied to a specific domain. Add the embed code again after the change.

Is there an Alma app in the Wix App Market?

No. You add Alma through Wix's Custom Code settings, using the embed code from your bot's Settings page in Alma.
